Web site live, a talk on privacy, and alternative news sources

Latest Event News

The countdown is officially on! In just one week (Thursday 25th June) at 11:00 AM - tickets for FFConf 2026 go live.

The early bird price is £219+VAT with a limited number available so get one before they sell out.

The website is now live and Remy has worked hard on the new 'zine' style.

Plus this year, you will have the chance to add an exclusive FFConf t-shirt to your order.

The header of 2026.ffconf.org - it was hard to work to make it look "bad"!

From Our Archive

We welcomed a fellow Brightonian and friend of FFConf, Chetan Padia to the stage last year to ask, are we "Powerless by Design?"

Chetan explores the tools that we use as default, raises the question of monopolies, convinces us that we are influencers, and gives us a comprehensive kit of alternative options that prioritise privacy, open standards, and have a clear business model.

His call to action is: show support by donating to open source and freemium models, keep talking about these issues, try something new, and stay curious.

Community News

Chetan mentions many alternative sources for services, products and news (EU Alternatives is an excellent start for services), but we wanted to signpost his suggestions for news rather than relying on social media as your source:

  • Kagi News - updated once a day, perfect antidote to doom scrolling
  • Fix the News - journalism focused on positive news around the world
  • The Nerve - culture, politics and tech founded by Carole Cadwalladr and others (of the Cambridge Analytica exposé)
  • Ground News - a source that lets you compare both sides of the stories
